What these numbers mean
Weekly visitors is how many people looked at the community in the past week. Weekly contributions is how many posts and comments they left. Reddit replaced the old public subscriber count with these two in September 2025, because a subscriber total mostly measured how old a community was, not whether anyone still used it.
The line under the numbers, contributions per 100 visitors, is the one worth reading first. Two communities with the same traffic can be completely different places: one where people ask questions and argue, and one where they scroll past. For customer research you want the first kind, because that is where problems get described in people's own words.
How to judge a subreddit before you research it
Size alone misleads. A huge general community buries any one complaint in noise, and a tiny one may not have enough posts to show a pattern. The communities that make good research sources are usually focused on one job, industry or tool, busy enough to have fresh posts every day, and talkative enough that people explain what went wrong.
- Check contributions per 100 visitors, not just visitors
- Prefer a focused community over a giant general one
- If no weekly numbers come back, the community is probably too quiet to research
- Read a few recent posts before committing a week to it
Where the numbers come from
Stats come from Reddit's public community data, fetched through our data provider when you look a subreddit up, and saved for up to seven days. A subreddit someone checked recently loads instantly. Fresh lookups cost us money per call, so they are limited to a few per visitor and a set number per day for the whole site.
The research block is different. It only appears when IdeaFast has already scanned the community, and it shows the problems we found there, scored, with every one traceable to the threads it came from.

Is the subreddit stats tool free?
Yes, with no signup. Fresh lookups are limited to a few per visitor per day so the tool can stay free. Subreddits someone looked up in the past week load from a saved result and are not limited.
Why doesn't it show a subscriber count?
Reddit removed public subscriber counts in September 2025 and now shows weekly visitors and weekly contributions instead. Where our data provider still returns an older subscriber figure, the tool shows it underneath, labelled as last known, and never as a current number.
Why did a subreddit show no weekly numbers?
Reddit shares weekly visitors and contributions for active communities. When none come back, the community is usually very small or quiet. In testing, the subreddits that returned none also had no posts in the past month.
What is a good number of contributions per 100 visitors?
There is no universal cut-off, so compare communities against each other. In a check of seven active subreddits on 15 September 2026, it ranged from about 1.4 to 5 contributions per 100 weekly visitors: r/SaaS was highest at about 5, while r/personaltraining and r/Dentistry were under 2, because many visitors there read without posting.
Can I see stats for private or banned subreddits?
No. Private, banned and deleted communities do not return any public data, and the tool tells you so.
