Octolens Review 2026: Pricing, Limits and Who It Fits
Octolens is AI-filtered social listening aimed at B2B SaaS. Pro is $159 a month for 15,000 mentions, Scale $499 for 50,000. What a mention really costs, how the flex billing works, and when a cheaper tool does the job.

Quick answer
Octolens watches Reddit, X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Hacker News, YouTube, Stack Overflow and more for your keywords, scores every mention for relevance with AI, and pushes the ones that matter into Slack, email or a webhook. Pro is $159 a month billed annually ($199 monthly) for 15,000 mentions and 10 keywords. Scale is $499 billed annually ($599 monthly) for 50,000 mentions and 40 keywords. There is a 7-day free trial with 5,000 mentions. Prices read from octolens.com on 23 September 2026.

Scan your niche$10.60 vs $0.97
One thousand mentions cost $10.60 on Octolens Pro and $0.97 on Awario Starter, both billed annually. The eleven-fold difference is not a mistake in either tool's pricing: with Octolens you are buying filtering, and with Awario you are buying raw volume.
What Octolens does
Octolens describes itself as social listening for B2B SaaS teams, and the platform list follows that: Reddit, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, GitHub, Stack Overflow, Hacker News and DEV, with podcasts, newsletters, news and the wider web added on the higher plan.
The part that separates it from an alert tool is what happens after a match. Every mention gets an AI relevance score of high, medium or low, a sentiment reading, and tags such as buy-intent, customer testimonial or promotional. You choose which levels are allowed to interrupt you, and the default is high and medium.
Delivery is Slack, email, webhooks or the API, and every plan includes full API access, webhooks and an MCP server, which is unusual: most tools put the API on the top tier. Team seats are unlimited on all plans, which is also rare.
Octolens pricing in 2026
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Mentions a month | Keywords | Refresh | History |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $159/mo | $199/mo | 15,000 | 10 (extra at $10 each) | Hourly | 2 years |
| Scale | $499/mo | $599/mo | 50,000 | 40 (extra at $5 each) | Real-time | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Unlimited | Unlimited | Real-time | Unlimited |
The two plans differ in four ways at once: how many mentions, how many keywords, how often it checks, and which platforms it reads. That bundling matters, because the reason you outgrow Pro is usually one of those four, not all of them.
Which platforms each plan reads
This is the difference that catches people out, because it is not about volume at all. Both paid plans read the social and community platforms. Only the higher one reads the places where long-form coverage happens.

So if someone writes about you in a newsletter or says your name on a podcast, Pro will not see it. For a developer tool whose conversations happen on Reddit, GitHub and Hacker News, Pro covers the ground that matters. For a brand that gets written about, Scale is not optional, whatever your mention volume is.
How many mentions is 15,000, really?
Mention quotas are hard to judge in the abstract, so here is a measuring stick from our own data. On 16 September 2026 we counted what six business communities publish in a week using Reddit's own counters: r/SaaS 12,109 posts and comments, r/smallbusiness 11,348, r/webdev 5,076, r/startups 2,476, r/Entrepreneur 2,335 and r/marketing 861.
Pro's 15,000 mentions a month is about 500 a day across every platform it reads. A brand name that appears in 1% of r/SaaS alone would produce roughly 17 Reddit mentions a day before you add X, LinkedIn, GitHub and the rest. So 15,000 is generous for a specific product name, and thin for a category word like "CRM" or "analytics", which is exactly when flex billing starts charging you.
Size the plan on how distinctive your keyword is, not on how big your company is. That is the single most useful thing to know before the trial.
What a mention actually costs
Two things stand out. First, the jump from Pro to Scale barely changes the price per mention: $10.60 against $9.98 billed annually. You upgrade for keywords, speed and coverage, not for a volume discount.
Second, the overage rate is honest. Mentions beyond your quota keep flowing and are billed at $0.013 each on Pro and $0.01 on Scale, which works out at $13.00 and $10.00 per thousand, within pennies of the plan rate. Plenty of tools charge a penalty rate for going over; this one does not.
The arithmetic that does change a decision: adding 30 keywords to Pro at $10 each costs $459 a month, while Scale is $499 and comes with 40 keywords, three times the mentions, real-time refresh and four more content types. If you find yourself buying extra keywords on Pro, you have already paid for Scale.
The flex billing needs a spend cap
Flex mentions are the feature to understand before you turn Octolens on. When you pass your quota, mentions do not stop, they keep arriving and get billed. That is the right default for a brand in the middle of a bad news cycle, and the wrong default for a keyword you set up badly.
Octolens lets you set a monthly spend cap or switch flex off entirely in settings. Do one of those on day one. A keyword that is too broad, say your product category rather than your product, can multiply your mention count quietly, and the bill is the first place you would notice.
What the AI scoring actually changes
Every listening tool promises fewer irrelevant alerts. What Octolens publishes is specific enough to judge: each mention gets a relevance score of high, medium or low, a sentiment reading, and category tags such as buy-intent, customer testimonial or promotional. You then decide which scores are allowed to reach you, and the default is high and medium.
That is the difference between a tool that saves time and one that creates a second inbox. With keyword-only alerting, a mention of your brand inside somebody else's launch post arrives looking exactly like a customer asking for help. Here they are tagged differently, and you can route only the buy-intent ones into a sales channel.
It is also the reason the price per mention is eleven times Awario's. You are not paying for the crawl, you are paying for a judgement on every result. If you would read every mention anyway, that judgement is worth nothing to you.
Setting it up without burning the quota
- 1Set the spend cap first, before adding keywords, or turn flex mentions off until you know your volume.
- 2Start with exact product names, not category words. Category words are what turn 15,000 mentions into a bill.
- 3Leave relevance at high and medium for a week, then tighten to high only if Slack gets noisy.
- 4Send buy-intent tags to a different channel from everything else, so sales conversations do not sit in a marketing feed.
- 5Use the webhook or MCP server if you want mentions inside your own tools; both are on every plan, so there is no reason to wait for an upgrade.
Who it fits, and who it does not
It fits a B2B SaaS team that already lives in Slack, has enough mention volume that filtering matters, and wants buying-intent posts separated from noise automatically. The AI scoring is the product; if you would not use it, you are paying for it anyway.
It does not fit a solo founder watching three keywords. At that size, F5Bot's free plan or Syften will do the job for a fraction of the price, and our F5Bot review covers where the free option runs out. It also does not fit anyone who wants cheap raw volume across the open web: that is Awario's shape, at about a tenth of the cost per mention.
Octolens against the alternatives
| Tool | What it is | Entry price | Filtering |
|---|---|---|---|
| Octolens | AI-scored listening for B2B SaaS | $159/mo billed annually | AI relevance, sentiment, tags on every mention |
| Awario | High-volume listening across social and web | $29/mo billed annually | Boolean search, sentiment |
| Syften | Community and forum alerts | $29.95/mo | Filters and rules |
| F5Bot | Free keyword alerts on Reddit, Hacker News, Lobsters | $0, then $9.99 | Keyword flags only |
| Brand24 | Established listening platform | From $199/mo billed annually | AI topics and sentiment |
The verdict
Octolens is priced like a tool that expects to be the only listening product you run, and built like one: API, webhooks and MCP on every plan, unlimited seats, honest overage rates, and AI judgement on every mention. For a B2B SaaS team with real mention volume, that is a coherent package and the $159 entry is fair for what it does.
The reasons to walk away are equally clear. If your keywords are quiet, you are buying filtering you do not need. If your conversations happen in newsletters and podcasts, Pro cannot see them and the real price is $499. And if what you want is to understand a market rather than catch mentions of yourself, no monitoring tool answers that question.
Frequently asked questions
What is Octolens?
A social listening tool aimed at B2B SaaS teams. It monitors Reddit, X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Hacker News, YouTube, Stack Overflow, Bluesky, DEV and TikTok, scores each mention for relevance with AI, and delivers the important ones to Slack, email, webhooks or its API.
How much does Octolens cost?
Pro is $159 a month billed annually or $199 monthly, for 15,000 mentions and 10 keywords. Scale is $499 billed annually or $599 monthly, for 50,000 mentions and 40 keywords. Enterprise is custom. Read 23 September 2026.
Does Octolens have a free trial?
Yes, 7 days with Pro features and up to 5,000 mentions, per its own FAQ.
Does Octolens monitor Reddit?
Yes, on both paid plans, alongside X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Hacker News, YouTube, Stack Overflow, Bluesky, DEV and TikTok. Podcasts, newsletters, news and the wider web are Scale only.
What happens if I go over my mention limit?
Nothing stops. Extra mentions are billed at $0.013 each on Pro and $0.01 on Scale, which is close to the rate you already pay inside the plan. You can set a monthly spend cap or turn flex mentions off in settings, and it is worth doing that before you add your first keyword.
Does Octolens have an API or MCP server?
Yes, and on every plan: full API access, webhooks and an MCP server, so mentions can feed dashboards or AI workflows. Webhooks are Discord-compatible and work with Zapier, n8n or Make.
Is Octolens worth it compared with cheaper tools?
It depends on whether you need filtering. At $10.60 per 1,000 mentions it costs about eleven times Awario's Starter rate, and the difference is AI relevance scoring, tagging and sentiment on every mention. If your keywords are quiet enough to read by hand, a cheaper tool or F5Bot's free plan is the better buy.
